Our Story

“El maestro” Chucho has always loved being around people, music, and good food.

His love for cooking stemmed from a place of necessity when he opened his business with his wife on Fourth Street- Bonao Grocery. Customers buying their groceries would smell his cooking and ask if he could sell some of his lunch to them, and in a matter of months, he decided to provide more for his customers and expanded the grocery store to start serving his food.

He was born in Bonao, Dominican Republic and both of his parents were teachers. With his parents influence, he too became a teacher and taught music to the kids in town focusing on the piano, trumpet, and guitar. Now “el maestro” is not only known as being a music teacher but also for his food.

With over 25 years of cooking and as any good teacher that’s always focused on learning, he was able to learn new techniques to elevate his Dominican and international cuisine. Using a play on words of his favorite cooking shows, he opened Master Kitchen in Hackensack and retired in 2018. After two short years, he realized that cooking and serving people in the community was his passion and as luck would have it, Master Kitchen Restaurant in Passaic would be right around the corner from his first business.
